Google’s Eric Schmidt has just been speaking at the Edinburgh Television Festival, where he focused on the future of TV, its evolution, and bizarrely offered his opinions on the faults of UK society. He also used the event to confirm today’s earlier speculation by revealing the Google TV platform will launch in Europe “early next year”.
Here’s a snippet from Eric’s lecture:
“Just as smartphones sparked a whole new era of innovation for the internet, we hope Google TV can help to do the same for television, creating more value for all… the UK will be among the top priorities”
And here’s Eric, in a nice thick cloth, wearing a style of glasses that clearly aren’t right for the shape of his head:
He needs rectangular frames. Also unfortunately for Eric, we’ve already seen Google TV have a bit of a disastrous launch in the US, so excitement isn’t exactly skyrocketing over here. Link via The Guardian.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ August 26, 2011It’ll be Eric driving around in a white van, asking random strangers if they’d like to buy a television.

/ August 29, 2011Google TV sounds awesome for one reason to me and that’s the ability to do an hdmi pass through from your set top box and overlay the internet on it.
it was the cable being assess that’s stopped it from really taking off.
I’ll happily but a revue style device, especially I’d I can get a cheap Amazon 10 inch tablet to control it with.

/ September 1, 2011I must admit I’m very curious about Google TV even if I have not turned on a television since 2007 or so. Maybe Google will do the trick.
