Archos has launched the first of its sexy pair of Honeycomb tablets in the UK, with the 8″ Archos 80 G9 now up for sale. The asking price is rather impressive, too – the basic model with 8GB of internal storage space can be ordered direct from Archos UK for £199.
For an Android tablet running version 3.2 of the OS that’s quite an extraordinary price, if you don’t mind a 4:3 aspect ratio screen and can live without 3G connectivity.
Archos is releasing two versions of the 8″ G9 tablet. This one comes with a 1GHz dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP4 processor, while the Archos 80 G9 Turbo ups that to 1.2GHz – and includes 16GB of memory. But that one’s not out yet.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ September 21, 2011Tempting, that could be my Andypad replacement. Shame it’s 4×3 though, will that cause problems with app? Main thing I want a tablet for is digital comics so the ratio might not be ideal.

/ September 21, 2011Well-written apps should cope with the aspect, which is generally the best for a tablet in my opinion (for multi-orientation use) – one of the few things Apple got right with the iPad.
question everything
/ September 21, 20114:3 is fine for comics – have a Touchpad with a comic reader app, it works perfectly, no ugly borders – makes me think a 16:9 would be the lesser option if reading comics is going to be a main use for a tablet.

/ September 21, 201116.9 has the advantage when viewing panoramic scenes that fall over two pages, but other than that yeah…
