A user over on the XDA forum who has installed Sony Ericsson’s newest Android 2.3.4 update on his Xperia PLAY has discovered an excellent unannounced new feature – it adds proper HD recording to the phone’s video camera.
Amazing at it may seem, the Xperia PLAY did indeed launch with only the ability to record movies at 800×480 resolution – but that’s now been boosted to full 720p courtesy of the new OS update. Here is a man’s video of proof:
Pop that video out to full size and you’ll see a (very short) Xperia PLAY 720p video in action. And a man’s collection of dogs. Thanks to Damo for the tip.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
