LG has finally confirmed the arrival of an update for its Optimus 2X Android phone, with the company giving the “Gingerbread” update a launch date of November 1st in for unlocked models in Europe. That is, at time of writing, TOMORROW.
As well as that, owners of the Optimus 3D will get an Android 2.3 update from the week commencing November 21st, with the company’s Optimus Black also seeing Android 2.3 from November 28th. Here’s the full announcement from LG:
LG would like to express its sincere thanks to all of the Optimus Series owners who have been waiting patiently for the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade. We are excited by the high level of product interest that LG Optimus Series owners have shown, and we are taking all possible measures to offer a smooth OS upgrade in a timely manner.
The three premium smartphones of the Optimus Series will be upgraded first, as outlined below, followed by a global rollout thereafter.
- LG Optimus 2X: Now available (as of 1st November, 2011) for open models in Europe
- LG Optimus 3D: Week commencing November 21st for open models in Europe
- LG Optimus Black: Week commencing November 28th for open models in EuropeThe exact timing of the upgrades in each market may vary because of the different requirements in each country with respect to domestic operators and models. A slim and glamorous phone from Sony Ericsson, with the sharpest display around. It’s no powerhouse and the screen’s not the biggest out there, but we don’t mind. Because it’s cute.
LG’s first glasses-free 3D phone is a heavy, fat monster, with a clever 3D effect that works rather well. As a smartphone, though, it’s heavy and underwhelming.
A very shiny thing from Sony Ericsson, with a 3.7″ screen and Android 2.3.3 inside. But is it exciting enough to win fans in today’s spec-obsessed market? Can man live on one core alone?
INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.

/ November 1, 2011Been waiting for this update since the phones release and its the 1st of November and still no update………….. my phone is unbranded is still on 2.2.2 kernel 2.6.32.9 really fed up with LG’s p£$% poor support.My friends HTC Desire has been running Gingerbread for over two months.I give up having to put up with really poor battery life random lockups and poor memory management.My 1st and last LG

/ November 2, 2011Finally, its here, I just took a peak late last night -1.11.2011. and it was available for my P990. Today, after work and phone back-up I will embark on the update -hopefully problem free.
Just for other guys to know, that the wait is finally over.
