Google man: Mobile anti-virus sellers are “scammers”

Chris DiBona, Google’s Open Source Programs Manager, has launched a very enjoyable attack on third-party anti-virus apps sellers, branding them “charlatans” and “scammers” who are preying on the worries of ill-informed consumers, because there simply isn’t an active malware scene on any of the main mobile platforms.

It’s pretty amazing stuff. Here’s DiBona’s rather straightforward advice on dealing with mobile “virus” claims:

“If you read an analyst report about ‘viruses’ infecting ios, android or rim, you now know that analyst firm is not honest and is staffed with charlatans. There is probably an exception, but extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence.

“If you read a report from a vendor that trys to sell you something based on protecting android, rim or ios from viruses they are also likely as not to be scammers and charlatans.”

We like you, Chris! Can we be Twitter buddies? Read the full explosive dissection of the anti-virus market over on DiBona’s Google+ page.

Unfortunately consumers are idiots, so when Apple or an Android malware vendor says Android has malware, their brains are wired to believe it, rather than question these peoples true motives.

You can’t help these idiots, not only did some of them buy a £800 smartphone (once they pay back over 24 months), they are stupid enough to believe everything Apple tell them.
