Retailer puts Galaxy Nexus shipments on hold, pending volume bug resolution

Online mobile gadget shop Handtec has suspended sales of the Galaxy Nexus, after it discovered that the volume bug was present in the SIM-free units it received from Samsung. The site says it had already begun sending out some phones before the error was widely reported – but has now stopped selling the device.

Here’s what Handtec said on its blog earlier today:

UPDATE further tests have shown that there is an issue with the volume on some tested units – we will keep you updated

UPDATE The tests are showing when in 2G mode the volume is acting erratically – we at this point are putting all shipments on hold.

Whoops. Samsung’s also currently deleting angry posts like made over on its UK Facebook page. It could really do with making some sort of statement on this before it undoes the last two years of good work building up the Galaxy brand.

Can’t think of a good name for this crisis. Volumegate is too boring. 900MHz-gate doesn’t exactly trip off the tongue. Anyone got any good ideas? Soundgate? Four-point-fail?

Re critical forum post deletions, don’t Apple have a patent on that? I can see the lawyers from Cupertino rubbing their hands already…
