The BBC has launched an update of its rather splendid BBC News Android app today, bringing in a new custom interface for devices the corporation describes as “large tablets.” In reality, this means a new side-by-side layout for those using Android 3.0 tabs and higher, with the size restriction meaning users of 7″ tablets will continue to see the mobile phone version.
Which is an odd move. Here it is in tablet mode:
The BBC also says it’ll have live streaming of the TV news channel and widgets ready for a future release. Meaning don’t moan about them not being in this version. The updated BBC News app is on the Android Market here.

INQ’s Android phone is an interesting “boutique” piece of hardware, packed with unique interface customisations that go far beyond the headline Facebook integration. We like it a lot.
